Group discussion is made up of two words:-Group and Discussion. Group means a number of persons who may or may not have interacted before. Discussion means transferring information on a certain topic and coming to a solid conclusion. Group Discussion! Is a methodology or in an easy language you may call it an interview process or a group activity. It is used as one of the best tools to select the prospective candidates in a comparative perspective. GD may be used by an interviewer at an organization, colleges or even at different types of management competitions. Group Discussion is a process where exchange of ideas and thoughts are debated upon. Group discussion is invigorative discussion where a topic is understood and discussed, and in the end, conclusion is given. It involves team work, but at the same time, it depicts individual personalities. A GD is a methodology used by an organization to measure whether the candidate has certain personality features according to their organizations. In this methodology, in this a topic is given to candidates also given a few minutes to think about the same, and then asked to discuss the topic among themselves for 15-20 minutes. It is a very useful device to screen the candidate’s capability as well as their skills. The number of candidates in a group may vary from 8 to 15 people.

It also helps the candidate to understand his/ her own strengths and weaknesses. It assists to expand the knowledge of the participant. It helps to analyze the social or economic matters more logically.

Group discussion is necessary for all the members of a GD to use reasoning. It is also pivotal for you to ask questions so you can know how much understanding other candidates have. If you are group leader then it is your duty to check that all candidates are taking interest to utter or not. It is pivotal to make assured everyone is talking about the topic. The students should talk and make statements regarding the topic. Firstly speak about uncomplicated things rather than complex argues. Once you have found the topic, you should advance your own ideas or views about it. You must know how to work well with others for a perfect group discussion, and you must know the topic or materials that are being discussed.
